Be a Leader. make a difference!

Attention 5th & 6th Graders: Are you interested in helping others and making a positive impact in our school community? Do you want to be a leader and help keep your fellow students safe? If so, you might be the perfect candidate for Safety Patrol! Safety Patrol is a team of responsible student leaders who serve as role models by assisting with morning and afternoon traffic safety. Whether it’s helping students cross the street or exit cars safely, patrol members play a key role in creating a safe and welcoming school environment for both pedestrians and drivers.

What Does a Safety Patrol Member Do?

Patrol members (must be in 5th or 6th grade) are assigned to morning and/or afternoon shifts and must be available to arrive by 7:55 a.m. and/or stay until 3:30 p.m. as needed. Responsibilities include:

  • Promote traffic and pedestrian safety
  • Support safe arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Set a positive example for other students

Weather Procedures

On rainy days, Safety Patrol members will go outside for duty stations only in light rain. All these members will need to wear rain ponchos. Vests and badges should not be worn with ponchos. If there is any lightning or thunder, all outside duty stations will be suspended for that day.

When the weather turns cold, all Safety Patrol members must dress properly: winter coats, hats and gloves. If not dressed appropriately they will have to find a sub and lose their job for the day. If the temperature reaches freezing (0°F) all outside duty stations will be suspended for that day.

When weather is below 35 degrees hot chocolate will be provided for the assigned safety patrollers.

When weather is above 90 degrees lemonade will be provided for the assigned safety patrollers.
