Famous Nebraskans Museum: A Living History Experience [Pictures Below]

Our 4th graders recently brought Nebraska history to life during their Famous Nebraskans Museum, and it was a wonderful success! The room was buzzing with excitement as staff members and guests stopped by to explore the museum and learn from our student historians. A large crowd turned out, and the students truly shined.

After weeks of research, students transformed into notable Nebraskans who have made a lasting impact on our state and beyond. Wax actors included Essie Davis, Ben Kuroki, Buffalo Bill Cody, Chief Standing Bear, Grace Abbott, and many more. Presented in a museum-style format, each student stood perfectly still as a “wax statue” until visitors dropped a gold coin into their cup — bringing them to life!

Once activated, students confidently shared what they had learned about their famous Nebraskan before returning to their pose. The presentations highlighted not only Nebraska history, but also the students’ hard work, creativity, and growing public-speaking skills. Their pride and enthusiasm were evident and made the experience engaging and memorable for everyone who attended.

Thank you to all the staff members who came out to support our 4th graders. This event was a great example of learning brought to life! It was a reminder of the many people who help make Nebraska great.

From the Springfield Platteview Education Foundation

The Springfield Platteview Education Foundation was proud to support the Famous Nebraskan Wax Museum project for 4th grade students at Springfield Elementary.

Through this hands-on experience, students researched influential Nebraskans, wrote reports, and brought history to life by presenting their character during a live wax museum event. Grant funding helped create a shared costume closet, ensuring every student had the opportunity to confidently step into the shoes of their chosen Nebraskan.

Congratulations to Mrs. McLaughlin and the Springfield Elementary 4th grade team for creating such a meaningful and engaging learning experience for students!
